SH1 reset it self

I tried logging on to wireless only to find the password that I had entered was not accepted, it seems that the SH1 had reset it self back to "changeme" from the password that I had set it to when I installed the SH1.

Can VM reset the SH1 remotely? Ken

Not sure about remotely (probably but not something agents can do) but the Sh1 does have a habit of resetting itself.

But it wouldn't reset itself to a setting he had set it to before?

Kush is right Ken. The SH1 is actually quite notorious at this behaviour.

Why don't you PM James_W on the VM forum and ask him if he can broker me giving you my SH2 for activation? I have a SH2ac so don't need the SH2.

You cant use used modems again unless they are screen and cleaned in the warehouse. just get one of out engineers to come and replace it. i put shub2 in at more or less every job now

Sephiroth. Thanks for the offer but it sounds a bit Official so I think I will try the official channels. I spoke to VM and they said I could upgrade from 30Mbit to 50Mbit and have SH2 now self install for an extra £4.99 per month and I would not get the free upgrade to a higher speed when it is available and be and tied into a 12 months contract, if wait for the free upgrade which is due by April 2015 I will not be tied into a new contract. I think it is a no brainer but to wait until the free upgrade.

Fair enough Ken. It would have been worth a try and would have cost nobody anything.

Yes you can, I had to install an old vmng300 from an old account to another account and it was fine.

Go on Ken. Contact James_W as I suggested!

surely they cant tell the difference. If you have got a modem which has been removed from someone's account (so VM cant see it on the network) and you want to put it on someone else's, they don't know whether it is second hand or brand new.

Re: SH1 reset it self

You can re use a modem if your moving from one house to another as the account gets switched off.

When a modem is removed it ships back to who ever removed it in the id. The modem is on two systems, the vm system to say its in an ID. Also into the companies system that distributes stock.

there is a way to reuse. But is hardly ever done. The only way ive done it before is when someone wanted there old equipment back instead of the new, or they want to swap equipment they have in there house which got taken off when they upgraded etc

I had to do that with my vmng300 (may it rest in peace). Everyone tom, dick and harry who I spoke to told me it had gone to "the shed" so for the first and only time ever I had to email the CEO's office and they got it back. It was in absolute mint condition when the ming mongs took it (without my permission) and I wanted it back.

Haha yeah thats the thing. But we have to do as we are told. All old equipment is removed, as techs dont want to be charged for lost stock

Re: SH1 reset it self

As far as I understand it, there's like a database of which modems are allowed on an account. A regular agent can try to add a modem onto an account, but if it's not listed in the other database, the system refuses to let them. There is a department that can add them but they're not customer facing, which is why it's so hard (albeit not impossible) to get an old modem put back on your account.
