Still Buffering On HD Programs Using BBC Iplayer
I thought this was being sorted months ago. But I still can't watch a full program in HD in the BBC Iplayer without it starts buffering.
I tried to watch Gardeners World and half way through the program stops and the buffering starts. |

Yes, same here. have problems with all HD catchup programmes, just a waste of time.......go straight for SD now.

Re: Still Buffering On HD Programs Using BBC Iplayer
I'm having trouble with SD and HD at the moment. Over on the official VM tivo forum there is a survey to fill out if you're having issues to hopefully help them solve the problem.

Been and fill in survey. If it's like the rest of VM will take forever before we hear anything.
Here is the link direct to survey http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...n/td-p/2375611 |

This is what I don't get, why we don't get any issues with Netflix.
|
I've had a terrible time for over 18 months now. YouTube on TiVo is unwatchable almost every time, evenings I don't even try anymore.
BBC iPlayer in HD too, BBC News and other Apps like Glastonbury stutter. I get poor picture quality on Netflix in the evenings too. Hardly ever get super hd in the evenings but never loose picture and sound. This happens on all 3 TiVos. |
Re: Still Buffering On HD Programs Using BBC Iplayer
I very rarely get HD on Netflix in the evenings but at least it is actually watchable without constantly stuttering.

b) Because it's in Netflix's interests to ensure congestion doesn't happen so they retain your monthly subscription whereas iPlayer has to come out of the licence fee with everything else - and that now includes the hundreds of millions for the BBC overseas services that the Foreign Office used to pay for. c) Because Netflix's founding team included engineers who knew their stuff and they use a delivery system that dynamically adapts to the available bandwidth so buffering and stuttering is less likely. The current generation iPlayer was built by outside contractors using mostly off-the-shelf components and uses a constant bitrate stream so if there's momentary congestion it has wait until there is sufficient data available again to continue. |
