file sharing between win7 home prem edition to mac os 10.9
Hi
I've recently bought a iMac 21" its got mac os 10.9 and I would like to share the files from my win7 machine so that I can copy over some pictures/music and other files from my win7 machine to my Mac. From my Mac when I got to Finder>Connect to Server and input my win7 machine IP it tries to connect and then fails. The error message just says " There was a problem connecting to the server “192.168.0.12”. contact sys admin for more info. any help greatly appreciated |

How much data are you talking about?
If its to purely copy over it might be easier to pop it onto a USB key or external hard drive and move it. If you need to share it how are you connecting the two machines? Direct cable, through a router/switch or wireless? |

Maybe easier on the Mac to setup SSH server then use WinSCP to push your files over.

Thanks guys, I've decided to try another solution.
I've got an old Del Dimension 9150 which originally had Win XP, 1Gig RAM, 250Gig RAID Hdd. I've formatted the harddrive killed off the RAID to give me 500Gig and installed FreeNAS on it. I can now connect to it from both my old PC and Mac. |

If you are tying to connect to c$ etc. it's probably due to the fact that you cannot, by default, remotely connect to administrative shares on a Windows 7 machine
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/951016/en-us Although if you explicitly share a folder via the explorer context menus giving relevant permissions to a local account you should be able to connect using smb:// from your Mac. |
