BBC Question Time texts
 

Hi,
I recently got a better deal and converted to TiVo from the V+.
It took a bit of getting used to and the TiVo is an improvement in some areas but not all :(

I can no longer access text comments from the BBC's Question Time or the 'easy to read' News headlines. All I get, when I press the RED button is BBC iPlayer. Where did the text content go?

Why can I no longer set a Reminder without having to record the Reminder as well. Doesn't make sense:(
If I'm watching a program on a particular channel and I want to be reminded about another program that's about to start on another channel, why would I want to record it as well as watching it ????????

If anyone knows the designer of the remote control, please shoot him/her.;)
It's very difficult to find anything in low light, I keep getting standby mixed up with Guide. Why are they so stupidly close together:erm:
Sure, I'll get used to it, eventually:sleep: but the only keys that stand out are 5 (it's got a bump) and the big yellow pause button (It's in the middle whether the remote is forward or backward).:confused:

Can anybody help with the BBC texts?

There is no text on TiVo, or if there is I have never found it. It seems to be an app with videos of news, not the text style.

As for reminders, I believe when the feature was added it was the only way it could work. For that, blame the minority of customers who pestered Virgin to add a reminders feature.

When you press the red button on any BBC channel you get taken to a screen and by default it is set on TV at the top of the screen. If you press TV you get taken to the iplayer interface.

However if instead you move the cursor to NEWS and press it you get taken to the news screen which gives you access to news stories in video or text.

Thx arcimedes, tried that but it is no substitute for the BBC text service:)

Isn't this a cue for an appropriate App?
In fact why can't I add or delete Apps from TiVo?
Virgin has 'missed the boat' here and why no browser App. TiVo is connected to the Internet isn't it?

Why would you ever want to use your cable box to browse the web? It would take forever. Just use your phone or tablet. That's probably why the text services are going away as well.

It's all about the 'second screen' now and use of traditional text services on TVs is shrinking.

Apps cost money to develop and it can be hard to make a business case for minority proprietary platforms. Browsers are incredibly complicated so you'd be developing something that may have issues with many sites, will probably not perform well due insufficient processor and memory on the TiVo boxes and a sluggish UI layer, and will only be used by a small minority of users.
