He's a great actor, but I can't help but feel that this will simply be a tame Black Sails.

I think the same, it looks like it's been made to be shown at a earlier US time slot hence the lack of violence and cut down gore content. But still, it could turn out to be a good show, looks promising.

I watched the first one on Sunday, and it was like a tame Black Sails. It even had a character memorise something vital so that the main pirate would not kill him.

It was OK, but I'm not expecting much of it tbh.
