Re: Gerry Adams arrested
I just hope her family finally get justice. Though I suspect Adams will squirm his way out of it, it's what he does. Satan has a very hot poker with Adams name on it waiting for him.

Re: Gerry Adams arrested
Obviously as he has never been a member of the IRA  he will be fully cooperative in the interview...

Re: Gerry Adams arrested
Let's hope that Jean McConville’s family and children get justice for her appalling murder.

Re: Gerry Adams arrested
One of her sons was talking on R4 this morning, he said he knows how took his mother but will tell no one because he fears for the safety of his family.

Re: Gerry Adams arrested
Yes I heard him interviewed yesterday saying the same thing. It must be truly awful being in that situation and never knowing who might be going to call one evening. Let's hope the police get to the bottom of this and those involved are brought to justice.

A new mural has today been painted of him on the Falls Road. "peacemaker, leader, visionary" http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/ne...-30239341.html

Re: Gerry Adams arrested
Despite what some may want Northern Ireland is not going to be another south africa the pain and hurt runs way too deep and people cannot move on because as in the mcconville case families know who was responsible and have no justice. Justice has to be served on all sides before a true peace and reconciliation can take place. NI is a beautiful country with some of the friendliest people i've met they deserve peace but sadly people and places rarely get what they deserve.

Re: Gerry Adams arrested
I thought that part of the Good Friday Agreement was for both sides to put the atrocities behind them and move forward?
Perhaps this only covered certain cases... I can understand why the familes of those that have been wronged want justice, but I fear that it could reignite the troubles and even more people will be injured and killed. For the greater good of everybody and future peace, it might be time for the authorities to consider leaving the ugly past behind. |

there's going to be a reaction no matter what. and I believe dragging the past up will provoke a reaction. whether it be intentional or just one of those things. |
Re: Gerry Adams arrested
Maybe a couple of generations down the line you might see the situation change to the one which the Good Friday agreement was hoping to achieve. In the meantime it's going to continue to simmer away. The IRA are still active in an ever changing guise. Not to the level they once were, but still as dangerous as ever. I don't think that the decommissioning of weapons was ever completely adhered to by both sides. The main communities, to an extent, feel betrayed by policing and concessions given to each other. I can't even begin to imagine how people feel when they see individuals that they know have ordered, and taken part in, evil atrocities walking about freely and taking up positions in Government. I don't feel we have the right to expect both sides to just shake hands and get on with it. Everyone is entitled to justice, and until certain people are seen to receive it, and not be above it, it'll continue the way it is.
