Battery capable of charging in 30 seconds
Pity they didn't mention its capacity.

Re: Battery capable of charging in 30 seconds
There's a new open channel Lithium cell in testing. It charges just as fast.

Re: Battery capable of charging in 30 seconds
So what's the actual capacity of the battery? It's not hard to charge a battery with 1% the capacity of the original in 1% of the time.
If you tried pumping the standard battery's 10 watt-hours into a Samsung S4 smatphone in 26 seconds regardless of the battery you would probably set it on fire. |

Basically, the battery is a lower capacity than the standard battery, the charger is currently twice as expensive and huge and the battery needs a considerably higher current to charge than the standard, so the phone needs to be modified. Still, they are targeting late 2016 for a launch, so they may be able to iron out those problems. |
Re: Battery capable of charging in 30 seconds
I'd sooner have a battery that lasts 30x longer personally...

Where something like that would sell is electric cars. Imagine being able to "fill" in minutes. Would still want a bigger range though.

Re: Battery capable of charging in 30 seconds
Agreed range & refuel time are the two biggest issues with 'leccy cars

Re: Battery capable of charging in 30 seconds
But A) you already handle cables of that size every time you pick up a petrol hose, and B) cables required for 12,000 amps would be much smaller.

Re: Battery capable of charging in 30 seconds
12,000 amps at what voltage? Low voltage = thick cables, high voltage = thin cables. But then again: low voltage = thin insulation, high voltage = thick insulation.
