Reducing package

Ok I have to reduce my TV package to save money, can I get freeview through the cable system. I am on Large TV, 60mb broadband and 24/7 phone.

What would I save by doing this.

Thanks

Your best bet is to give retentions a call and see what they can come up with within your budget. With loyalty discounts you might end up with more than you'd expect.

Some of the collections are quite cheap now when you consider that even the lowest one has 50mb broadband.

Are you contract term currently? Also how much do you roughly pay per month?

You should be able to switch services without hassle. Only problem being is you will need to re-contract.

If you want Freeview, broadband and telephone the cheapest collection is the started collection at £35.99 per month (including phone-line rental) That comes with 500Gb TiVo, 50mb broadband and weekend calls to land-lines. A saving of just over £30.00 per month. As suggested above, you might be able to get this package a little cheaper by calling Virgins retention team.

You can't get 'Freeview' but you'll be able to get the FTA channnels on the 'M' package if you go through retentions, including the free HD channels.

I was told I couldn't get the starter collection, because "brand new customers only". Even though I was on the phone to retentions already for the 'M' package :/

My latest Virgin bill was £10 more than usual - i assumed i had gone over an hour on the phone without noticing and got charged and then had VAT added as usual but not so.
I am now paying £70 a month and i have had enough. I am ringing tomorrow to reduce my package to as small as i can possibly get it as i want to keep the basics but i am not paying for XL TV any more as there is really nothing on it that i cannot watch somewhere else.
I understand i may lose my loyalty discount but i am not feeling very loyal at the moment. I have a virgin sim only phone with unlimited calls so i do not need the phone and every night i sit here going through the tv guide and find very little i actually want to watch. I have to reduce the amount i am paying anyway due to financial reasons but this last price hike is the last straw.

It's not Virgin Media's fault that there are no programs on the many channels that are available to you.

It's also not Virgin Media's fault that you have been paying for these channels that you are not using.

But it is Virgins fault for charging me £10 extra for nothing :)

Why didn't you ring up then when you got the letter? That's what most of us did and some of us got the price frozen.
Best thing to do is ring retentions tell them your budget and they'll work with you to get a package that suites your needs. You won't get anywhere by complaining on a forum.

Reduce down to the M TV package its the same as freeview you can also get TiVo with that, so a free box already included.

Re: Reducing package

I have not received a letter from Virgin or an email. If i had done i would not have been surprised by the price increase.
I have been in touch with retentions and arranged to reduce my bill and am happy with the result.
I was not really complaining and expecting anything to be done about it on the forum. Just expressing my opinion in a thread about reducing package as it was something i was going to have to do for financial reasons.
