This article confirms that Virgin are not interested in doing a deal for Sky Atlantic.

Virgin Media chief executive Tom Mockridge told a Broadcasting Press Guild lunch that while his priority was on growing broadband capacity rather than adding content to set-top boxes,

The article says Virgin would like Amazon Prime On Demand App - they've held talks but it's too soon for Amazon.
It says deals for these kind of services doesn't grow eithers
customer bases.

Tom Mockridge says Sky Atlantic is not key, unlike huge customer demand for BT Sport.

-while fast broadband is great, I'm very disappointed in such a public announcement that investment in content is not key. Might have to consider my options if this is proved to be the case.

He hasn't said Sky Atlantic is not coming to VM, though, that's just what you have read into the statement.

He might just be talking the price down!

I pay £4.99 a month for NOW TV and to be honest the only thing I've watched on it is Fleming, haven't seen anything else that interests me really

Maybe that's because they don't have previous seasons of shows to catch up on? It's pointless joining a show that is part way through a season. Fleming was new and started after the Entertainment part of Now TV launched.


With the amount of money Sky have paid HBO this time, you would have thought the deal would include all back seasons, and the airing of shows close to the US air date. If it did, Now TV would be excellent value

They do have previous seasons. Three years worth of game of thrones, all of mad men, etc. Now TV is excellent in my opinion. With I player, ten very good channels and month long catch up I'm monitoring very closely at the moment, but the vast majority of my viewing is available through Now tv. Quality over quantity every time, Virgin have missed the point with all last year's channel launches, it really isn't about the amount of channels as far as I'm concerned.

I'm currently locked in with loyalty discount for a few more months, but I'm keeping a close eye on how Virgin sort out the suggestions mess and how much the now tv entertainment pass goes up by. I've been a very happy Virgin customer but now I can see that I might be getting to the end of the road. I really really really don't need faster broadband.

Well said that man, i feel exactly like you mate, there's far too much crap on Virgin and Sky for that matter, i don't care what anyone say's i'm pretty sure the majority of viewers would rather have quality channels than all this +1 etc etc rubbish!

TBF mate Sky Atlantic is not on any of the lists i've got. Amazon OD however is but marked as "ongoing talks" which the ops link confirms.

I've already made my mind up once my contract ends the tv and phone is going i'm keeping the broadband and just sticking to on demand/smart dns services. Works out overall a £27p/m saving too as i can get rid of tv license too.

MM has pointed out previously that they do add back seasons for some shows now and then.

But I specifically highlighted all shows. What about Boardwalk Empire, Banshee and similar shows? The Season 2 finale of Banshee has already aired in the US; form what I've read on another forum, Atlantic haven't even started showing season 2 yet.

If they added all seasons and aired close to the US air date, they would get my money but they won't for the service as it currently is. Personally, I think Sky should ask HBO for some money back ;):D

A trend that will become more and more popular IMHO. I did that a month or so ago. The only reason I kept Tivo was because it turned out cheaper to keep it with M TV than to just have BB and phone on their own.

I still pay for what I watch, but I only watch the things I want to watch and don't mind paying for those.

Using streaming services is certainly becoming more popular , my issue with going solely down this route at the moment is how far behind the traditional broadcasters the streaming services are. There's many shows that were on terrestrial long since , the pay tv channels are also way in front example Modern Family Sky One is currently airing season 5 with seasons 1-4 on Sky On Demand compared to Netflix who only have S1-2.

If it wasn't for a few good Netflix originals I'm not sure I'd be subscribing , I do love the technology behind the service and it's great to have complete Boxsets however sadly most has been on the tv already.

If you use a smart DNS mate unblock cost about £2.20p/m you'll get access to hulu and other Netflix regions amongst other stuff and a lot of shows are straight after they air in the USA.

Good luck with the savings mate. Do you not need a TV licence to watch TV over the internet though? I was under the impression you did.

Seems a lot of hassle to set Hulu up on my streaming devices and don't really like using the computer to watch tv. After searching the various Netflix regions it seems a lot are still behind the UK broadcasters for many shows.

You could hook the PC up to the TV. Usually a simple one cable connection.

And for people who do move entirely over to all TV via the internet, it makes a lot of sense to have a small, lounge friendly, PC, permanently hooked up to the TV.

Not if you are only watching catch up tv or on demand services. Also you can just tell TVL to jog on and remove their rights of access so they can't bother you. I was just honest with them told them come August i won't be re-newing my tv license as i'm getting rid of live tv and just using on demand and catch up tv services. As PB said just hook the pc upto the tv via HDMI mate or you could just set your DNS up on your router, what i did was buy a cheap router, put my superhub2 in modem mode as can't change dns on that, connected my new router to the hub set up dns on my router and that was it done. Just one DNS change needed mate.
