Virgin Media has held takeover talks with Daisy Group

From The Times:
  • Daisy Group provides communications services to businesses so a potential bolt-on to Virgin Media Business.
  • Informal talks between Daisy Group and Virgin Media have taken place in recent months.
  • It is not known if Virgin Media will bid for the company.
  • Negotiations have stalled over price with Daisy holding out for a value of £600m compared to a current market value of £502m.

Interesting decision. Daisy also offer wholesale ADSL services which are resold by a few smaller companies to residential users.

Another interesting aspect is that under Liberty's ownership, Virgin Media does seem to be on the look-out for acquisitions, which I don't recall happening under the previous owners.

To be fair to the previous owners and management, that was for a very good reason. Merging ntl, Telewest and Virgin Mobile and turning the business around to make a profit were the priorities.

Buying up additional companies in addition to that would have been a distraction. Liberty bought VM when they did, and can now look at acquisitions, because of the work that had been done.

Hi Ben, I'm not implying that VM's strategy as an independent entity was better or worse than under Liberty Global's ownership, just highlighting what seems to be a difference.

By the way, the story on Sky News here http://news.sky.com/story/1225606/li...ith-500m-daisy seems to imply that it's actually LGI itself, rather than VM, that have been having the talks

Easy to forget I guess that VM can't acquire anything; they're a wholly owned subsidiary of LGI and can no more unilaterally acquire another company than any of the rest of the UPC family.
