Router To Use With SH2

I'm quite happy with the SH2 having no speed or stability issues, however I do have a bit of a wireless blackspot upstairs in my daughter's bedroom - She does get a signal but it's not quite good enough - I'm thinking of buying a router & putting the SH2 in modem mode. There are other avenues I could take but it seems like a router with even slightly better wireless will do the job.

Any recommendations, or would I do better with wireless extenders etc. She gets a good connection with the homeplugged PC but it's mobile devices that are the issue - Any ideas would be appreciated as it's a while since I bought a router :dunce:

For all of the hubs issues, the SH2 is actually a fairly decent wireless router so I'm not sure you will get much extra range putting it in modem mode and plugging another wireless router in (even if it's a particularly good one).

However, there's nothing stopping you plugging in a second wireless router where the homeplug is located. As long as you turn DHCP off on it, it'll broadcast a second wireless network for things to connect to and as a bonus, you'll be able to plug the PC into one of the spare Ethernet ports. I feel that would be a bit more reliable than a wireless extender but I've not really used them myself so I can't comment - perhaps someone will say otherwise.

Agree with Kushan, I've done exactly that. I had a weak signal in the furthest point of the house, and also had an ASUS RT-N16 lying about. So I used the N16 as an additional access point. Job done.

Can't say anything about powerline though, as I've never used these devices. :)

Thanks a great idea! My house is stone & has really exterior & interior walls, I don't have a spare router but I know someone who does, sorted! :D

Thanks.

For anyone else interested you can get cheap routers off eBay starting at less than £10.
