Experience of Box Replacement.

We called up on Saturday afternoon to report an issue in regards to our Scientific Atlanta 8300 DVB having a Hard-drive Failure, which the rep said that due to it being an older box it required another one.

Booked an Engineer for Monday between 8am-12pm
Engineer arrived just after 8 o Clock after a phone-call informing that he was on his way!

He then ran the box through a machine, which he said he was required to-do before he can make the swap over and showed me the on-screen report stating that it did appear to be a Hard-drive failure.

He then swapped it for the newer Samsung SMT-H3110 model, which he did then say that these boxes are no-longer in production and that they do have a slight issue in locking on start up, which he then proceeded to show me the work around just in-case it happens in the future.

He then went outside the property to check the line coming into the house, said everything appeared to look good!

The feed from the living room into the bedroom was split using a splitter for broadband and TV. He then fitted two white VM branded boxes behind the Broadband modem and then behind the V+ box itself then checked that we had one in the living room, which we did only difference is it was Telewest branded -due to the TIVO box being in that room. Said that they was required to-do so now!

Was really impressed with the service provided by VM.
Seemed a very knowledgeable engineer.

What? We've still got an old OLD Telewest branded box in the lounge. The engineer never even unplugged the coax from it when we had a Tivo migration

He said it was recent thing, he did not go into any specifics as to why...
But i would imagine it being done so customers could not easily tamper with the lines which engineers fit...

Every piece of equipment connected to the network coax now has to have its own isolator, even if they are sited next to eachother.

Not if they are plugged into the same plug socket. Another reason installers will put the hub right next to the tivo
