Angry scientist responds to typical uneducated internet science rant..

I love the guy's response to someone who doesn't know biology telling people they shouldn't vaccinate their kids..

IMO, he's right. We would not have the problem with TB coming back *if* more people hadn't refused to vaccinate their kids after the media made such a thing of one study (since discredited, although you'd be hard pushed to find that in the media) linking the MMR vaccine with Autism.

have to say the scientists grammar was awful though of course I agree all kids should be vaccinated

I thought TB was coming back because it was anti biotic resistant as well though

I think the problem is that people were not vaccinated, then caught it and were treated with antibiotics, which is what is increasing it's resistance to antibiotics.

oh right so the MMR scare carried over to the TB test and jobs? Stupid parenting that one. I had to have the job after the stapler test when I was at school. Bethia had all hers too :)

Wasn't it the government that stopped TB vaccinations?

Actually, I was mixing TB up with the recent Measles problems, but the reason is the same. Lack of vaccination.

The government stopped TB injections..it was decided that only children in high TB risk situations would be vaccinated.Of course if those children are missed and fail to be vaccinated there may be a risk of TB spreading..and vaccination scares are the way in which we will fail to eradicate diseases. I'd hate to see Smallpox make it's way back into the populations of the globe.

The only smallpox left is STILL in labs - despite several proposals to destroy remaining stocks, some administrations seem hell-bent on obstructing the process for reasons you can only suspect.

The mercury (thiomersal) issue - seems that there is pressure to phase it out, not through any concrete evidence, but for public reassurance as the perception is that mercury compounds must pose some risk.

Smallpox was only eradicated by consistent and concentrated vaccination on a global scale..and I still like to think that there is still the ability to make the vaccine just in case..Never say never. ;)

Polio still runs riot in Pakistan and a couple of other countries. Attempts at vaccinating against it in parts of Pakistan have met with severe problems, mostly armed attacks against the vaccination teams! That sure beats the situation here with parents making bad decisions due to published pseudo-science and rhetoric.

Outbreaks of TB and measles in the western world have been blamed on immigrants, but there seems to be no move to return to mass vaccination of our population, or the vaccination of immigrants on entry. But other people think that it's people returning from overseas holidays that are the carriers, or even travellers just transitting.

Quarantine time again?

There would be no need for mass immunisations IF everyone got their children vaccinated when asked to do so by the government. So quarantining immigrants won't be necessary.

Adult migrants with no immunisation?
