Pausing issue on Tivo.
Hello -Just wondering if anyone is having or had the same issue as me. I have only noticed it recently but when i pause live TV even before the Tivo runs out of buffering time ( not sure if that is what it is called ) it starts and jumps forward in the program and there is no way to rewind it. The missing time is gone. Now obviously i am aware if you pause something for too long it will start when the buffering time runs out but this has never happened before.
Do i have a box issue or is it something i can fix? Thanks in advance. |
Re: Pausing issue on Tivo.
How long has it paused before it restarts? Or does it restart when a recording starts maybe (including Suggestions)?

Re: Pausing issue on Tivo.
I think it might be around the 20 minute mark. Enough time to make a cup of tea hang the washing up etc. I have no suggestions turned on and there are no other recordings happening. I have obviously left it on pause before for so long it has to restart playing as there is no time left but this is different - it jumps a few minutes forward into the recording and when you press rewind you can see it had not got to the end of the recording buffer. I have had my Tivo for a while now and am used to most of its behaviour this is not normal.

Re: Pausing issue on Tivo.
Is this happening after a program has finished and the buffer only goes as far back as the start of the program and not to the last one?

Re: Pausing issue on Tivo.
No. As i said i am used to the Tivo not pausing any more but it has always just carried on playing from the exact moment it was paused - even if the previous film or program has ended but now it does a little jump like a record skipping and you can rewind back to the part you paused it at but then it does a little jump again - as if it is not recording that little bit. Sorry if i am making this sound more difficult than it is. It is though to be fair if i have had it on pause for a while but this is a new glitch i have not seen except in the last week or so.

Re: Pausing issue on Tivo.
Have you tried restarting the TiVo by powering down then back on again?

Re: Pausing issue on Tivo.
I am going to do that today but it has only just been rebooted after the gas man came and needed to get into a corner to read something. It happens infrequently and the only way to see if it is still happening is to pause something and wait 40 minutes.
Thank you Stephen - i was hoping someone else had seen it and then i might have some more info to work with - it's not a deal breaker just irritating and i have too much stuff saved on it to want to swap it for a new one. |
Re: Pausing issue on Tivo.
I've left my TiVo paused earlier for over an hour and resumed play fine.
Is it every channel or just certain ones? |

But I still suspect a software fault rather than hardware, Lbp, so I wouldn't recommend a box swap. |
Re: Pausing issue on Tivo.
Thanks - i have left it on pause before for ages too this is why the first time it happened i barely noticed it - the only time i can tell you what channel it was on was Saturday night must have been Film 4 i was watching Trainspotting - Renton was about to steal the bag of loot. I paused it as i needed to attend to things - i may have previously paused it so was behind time anyway. Anyway upon my return i unpaused it and it skipped to Renton leaving the hotel - therefore missing the bit where he sneaks the bag off Begbie and Spud trys to stop him. Not a lot if you know the film but still annoying. I could rewind it to see Renton about to take the bag - then it skipped back to him leaving the hotel again. Minute maybe?

Re: Pausing issue on Tivo.
There's a known bug where recording playback skips forward randomly. Maybe this is the same thing happening to delay TV.

Re: Pausing issue on Tivo.
Thanks again it's not hugely irritating but i will keep an eye on it. :)
