Modem mode but need to use another ethernet connection.

Hi
I have a superhub 2 set in modem mode and this is then connected to my Apple wireless network. I now have another device that i need to connect to the lan connectors on the back of the superhub, when i do this the lights don't flash so I'm guessing they are disabled apart from the one that goes to my apple device.
How do i get my new device to connect to the superhub using ethernet cable.

You need to set it to router mode (or add a router). In modem mode only port 1 works.

If i set it to router mode will my apple network still work?

It should.

I've put it in router mode and now my apple network has stopped working

---------- Post added at 18:22 ---------- Previous post was at 17:02 ----------

I've put it back in modem mode for now.
This is what happened when i set it to router mode. The superhub rebooted and was working wirelessly. The ethernet connection to the apple airport express was still connected but the apple device was flashing amber (can't establish a connection to the network). It would not connect even after unplugging it and letting it reboot while connected to the superhub.
Can anyone explain how to connect it?

Re: Modem mode but need to use another ethernet connection.

You can connect a device to the LAN port on the Airport Express (the Superhub will be in the WAN port). If you already have something connected to that, then you'll need an Ethernet hub which should be connected directly to the Airport Express via the LAN port, then plug your other devices into the hub.

gig e hubs are plenty cheap these days, but it appears the Airport Express only has a 100meg lan connection so it will be the slowest part of the network.

Thanks Skie. I have the 1st generation airport express and it only has the one port which the superhub is connected to.

ethernet hubs don't exist so I'll clear things up a bit. When the shub is in modem mode it is just that so none of the router/switch bits work including wireless and the "lan" ports on the back of the shub. In order to extend your wired network you need a "switch" which you can connect multiple devices to. Seeming as though the airport express only has two ports on the back one will need to go into the shub and the other one to a switch such as this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Linksys-8-Po...gigabit+switch You can then connect any wired device you want to the switch and it will handle the traffic accordingly. (if you dont need 8 ports you can get a 4 or 5 port switch)

If you keep the SH2 in router mode, then this might help.

Re: Modem mode but need to use another ethernet connection.

As i have said, my airport express is 1st generation and only has the one port which is connected to the shub. So i must get a new airport express which has the two ports, wan and lan for it to work.
Another point. If the shub is in router mode should i of changed the airport express setting from dhcp to bridge mode for it to connect to the lan of the shub?

you would turn the DHCP off

Yes. Did the link I provided not help you? It describes what you have to fo in Airport Utility.

I've got an Airport Express (1G) and although I'm in modem mode now, when I was on the SH2 trial in router mode, I had to configure the AEx accordingly.

this might be a stupid question because i dont have any apple products but why would you use stuff like Airport Extremes? What is wrong with a normal wireless router?

I'm surprised that you are asking me that, mon General.

As it happens the OP isn't using an Airport Extreme but, as you know, I am. It's a damn fine router and had dual wifi long before ASUS brought out their splendid range (I habve one of those on my Infinity circuit).

Anyway, the Airport Extreme is a normal wireless router.

Thanks Sephiroth, i'll try it.
General Maximus. I found that the shub router will not reach some of the bedrooms in the house. My apple network and extenders were already there when i had a VM modem only.
