Why are all my recordings marked for deletion?

My Shows display indicates that my disc is 79% full.
Why is it therefore that every recording is marked for deletion, either in the next 24hrs or the next 3 days?
The ones I really want to keep I have had to change the setting to manually delete - which is a right pain.
The egg timer indicators are partially grayed out - does this mean they are not really going to be deleted?
When they are automatically deleted, do they go into the Recently Deleted folder? If so they are not making more space available so why move them?
I am very confused!

TiVo is very pessimistic when deciding whether something may be deleted. The recordings won't be deleted unless the hard drive actually does become full (or for some other reason such as a "keep at most" setting on series link).

Also, anything stored in Suggestions and Recently Deleted would be deleted before your requested recordings.

Thanks for that.
Is there any difference between an egg timer icon which is white and one which is grayed out? If there is, this does not apper to be described in the documentation.

The icon varies depending on how likely it is to get deleted, and when. As well as grey and white, the position of the sand varies (top or bottom). Never made much sense to me.
