TouchWiz - how do I stop it?

How do I stop TouchWiz from operating on a Samsung Galaxy S4?

It just sort of appeared over the last couple of days and I find it intensely annoying

oh yeah - and happy new year

From what I've read the only way is to ROOT.

Touchwiz is always on the S4. It is the name of the Samsung skin that adds extra features to android.

You can install different launchers though, like Nova Launcher from the app store.

It's only been an issue since I installed and then subsequently un installed a kitkat launcher. Wished I had left sleeping dogs lie now

Whats the issue exactly? It has been on your phone since they day you got it.

I have a Note 3 and the touchwiz skin is fine.

spreadsheet 01-01-2014 23:37

At times it pops up with a screen saying "complete action using touchwiz" and then displaying two buttons one saying just one and the other saying always in a similar fashion that u get offered for say options for using Chrome or Internet. Thing is is that either option does nothing. I have installed the nova launcher as suggested and that is offered as a third option which does work.

Strange thing is that I have not seen any prompts from touchwiz till a couple of days ago but have had the phone since last august

Looks like other people are having your issue too, installing another launcher then selecting touchwiz as default may fix it though.

Also post 6 in the above thread may fix it for you too.

You can easily get rid of TouchWiz without rooting.

You would however have to install a custom firmware that doesn't have TouchWiz, but that also means losing all Samsung specific software.

I have never seen prompts for touchwiz either so I am guessing you have installed an app or launcher to make that happen without realising it.

This.

Sounds like the problem you're having is nothing to do with TouchWiz but rather the OS defaults becoming messed up because of the alternate launcher you installed.

Thats nothing to do with touchwiz, thats androids defaults being messed up after you removed the other launcher. Selecting touchwiz as the always option should sort it out.

Either that or factory reset the handset.

yes = I can envisage going down that route

Re: TouchWiz - how do I stop it?

According to the link I posted it is happening without another launcher with other people and a reset isn't working although post 6 sorts it out.

Re: TouchWiz - how do I stop it?

I find it highly doubtful that a reset wouldn't solve the problem, as without root, it's impossible to modify anything that persists after a reset.

That said a reset is a pretty extreme measure for a minor problem. Clear defaults on Touchwiz launcher, set as default again and you should be fine.

The general consensus of opinion is that it's an issue with Google search updates. If u in install them it will sort it. I have done that and it seems ok now but will remain vigilant

I started getting more hassle with it

so reset it all back to scratch - ok so far - hope it doesn't rear it's ugly head again
