Splitting recorded music into tracks?

I've often wished I could break down some of my favourite records into the various tracks which were recorded and then combined to form the final product. Is there any free/cheap software out there which can separate the various tracks on a given piece of recorded music?

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Audacity will take care of all your audio editing and slicing needs. And it's free.

Try MP3 Direct Cut.

Very neat and quick as no re-encoding is necessary. There's a little initial learning curve but it's not too bad. Certainly no worse that Audacity.
