A nice Christmas Present

How accurate this is I don't know... the Daily Star quote:

Time to strap down the Turkey

If it's the same Daily Star that confidently predicted the typhoon that hit the Philippines was heading "STRAIGHT FOR THE UK" a few weeks ago I think we can all assume the answer is not very.

You seem to be mocking the Star's editorial veracity... :D

Not in the same glass, surely? That would be sacrilege..

Here's your answer:

Weather expert Nicola McGeady, from Coral, warned: “The odds on the worst winter in history continue to tumble as the latest weather reports make for grim reading.
Coral. Ms McGeady is a bookie. Not a weather forecaster.

And Coral, in turn, is slashing its odds because its beer-soaked punters got a bit of a fright last week and have started betting on more of the same.

The Daily Star's headline is ultimately based on the boozed-up paranoia of a few thousand gambling addicts. Which, to be fair, pretty much sums up the Daily Star's readership.

Ahh, the Sunday Sport. The paper that, IIRC, published topless photos of the above mentioned Linsey on what they proudly proclaimed was her 16th Birthday then had to retract the headline and apologise when the authorities contacted them and pointed out that had they *actually* published the photos on her 16th Birthday, she'd have been 15 (and therefore underage) when they were taken.

Having worked in my parent's newsagents (which, admittedly, was only one shop so not a representative sample), I think you might be over stating things a little. A few thousand gambling addicts? I doubt the Star has a few thousand readers...
