the car currently has no road tax disk, how can i get one without this?

i have insured the car and seller assured me the road tax is until May 2014 and has written this on the reciept he provided.

Not sure what you can do, but you can check on the dvla website to make sure is taxed etc.

Ok cool....i dont think its taxed, but im checking now to see if it has mot at least as suggested by the seller...until may 2014

will i have to wait for the certificate? or alternatively purchase a duplicate?

MOT is all online, the paper copy they issue is just a receipt and has no legal status.

You can check: https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status

Even a MOT is pointless, you could take you car out a garage which a piece of paper stating MOT passed, and the police could stop you and say your car is unfit for the road.

Just take the log book with you and insurance doc (although i don't think even that is required now but not sure) as the post office check all docs on line

If they can do it in post office with insurance and the v5c document that would be brill.

I don't have the logbook yet as I am a new owner and I am waiting for dvla to send it. On the website it says the tax disk may go to registered dvla keeper if you don't have the logbook. Or is it worth just getting it online anyway?

Don't buy tax online until DVLA have car registered with you at your address as keeper.

You are in rock and hard place.

You should have the V5 doc of the old keeper (seller) take that with your insurance to the post office to get a new tax disc, assuming the car is not currently taxed. They can verify MOT with online records, as the paper receipt you get isn't a MOT certificate any more so there isn't a requirement to hold onto that.
