which vw golf (2010. 35,000 miles) £7,000 or 2010 (60 thousands miles) £8.500

the 35 thousand mileage is a motability car
the vw golf with around 60 thousand mileage is a fleet car

from a used car showroom, which is the best one to go for?
both have 1 owner full service history

i will be doing less than 10,000 miles per year.. a few motorway trips every few months, mainly school run, shopping etc

any advise appreciated?

Motability are often well looked after and I've always been advised to go for those if the opportunity arises.

they both would have been serviced thought etc
.. its just around 1500 more and was wondering whether the extra will be worth it

both are exactly the same

As abyss says. The fleet car is probaly been thrashed most of its milages, perhaps from cold starts.

Mobility every time!
We brought a 3yr old fiesta that was mobility and just a smidge over 5000 miles for 6k, was and still Is a bargain.

ive never bought a used car... but i have read that motorway trips are generally better then sort stops a-b even if its lower mileage

as for servicing, the company / motability would have paid for proper service etc so its all recorded..

so you think the extra 1500£ is worth it for around 25,000 miles?

Mobility by a country mile

ex fleet cars can get driven by lots of different people and can get abused at every turn, mobility are usually well looked after by our more senior gentry.

I wouldnt buy an ex fleet car (for personal use) no matter what price.

There has to be some other difference in specification that the higher mileage car has the higher price? Lower mileage 35,000 miles in 3 years is average for a newish car. The 60k miles is far too high, and so something is wrong with it's pricing.

For you, look at the running costs. Auto's can affect mpg and general power. Does the car actually drive well and appear mobile.

i suppose higher mileage is beacuse of its a ex fleet car with 1 owner...
its an automatic..

the other veichles with less mileage has just been brought to my attentions it not an automatic as i required..

i put the prices wrong way around

7k for 60 thousand miles / 2010 . automatic

8.5k for 34 thousand miles / 2010 . manual

i have just seen a similar car 31 thousand miles, automatic, 5 door golf for around 8,500 ex motability , 1 owner, full service history. i may go for this one?

As with any second hand car purchase you have to eventually go with your gut, but not before taking someone along with you who knows what they are looking at.

I'd still go for the ex mobility vehicle if the money wasnt the deciding factor.

Take the Motability car any day. Gently driven for 3 years, and hasn't even done its maximum permitted mileage (12k per year on pain of additional charges for every excess mile).

The fleet car will have done almost all of those miles thrashing up and down the M1, often from a cold start, with someone behind the wheel who frankly didn't give a toss for the long-term value or mechanical performance of the vehicle.

Don't go for the Automatic - the VW DSG gearboxes are known to break down VERY often, and are in the thousands to repair/replace.
