Blank Screen When Turning On Tivo
 

Hi guys,

I am having a problem with my Tivo box, I have Googled the problem and searched this forum but can find nothing very recent on the subject.

My box has been fine however I have started having problems when I first switch on from standby, the first time each day.
The green lights are on but there is no picture or sound at all just a blank screen.
I just reset the box first of all which works however not so easy if you are recording a programme at the time.
I even re-seated the HDMI cable (as per a couple of articles from 2011 suggested) but that does not work.

I live in area 21, so have had the update I assume but this has only been happening for about a week or so, I think the update was about three weeks ago.

Before I go to Virgin and or buy another HDMI cable are there any suggestions as to the problem and the solutiion.

Hi

I know this sounds crazy but if I wake my TiVo box from standby but my TV was not on standby it will auto switch my TV to AV1 that is my recorder I use to archiving the odd TiVo recording even though this box is not switch on, so producing a blank screen on my TV!

I think you have a compatibility problem between the TV and TiVo. Is the TV connected directly to the TiVo or does it go via an amp or switch. Try direct if it isn't already.

Does it happen if you don't put the TiVo into standby?


I can explain that one. Whilst the TiVo is waking up, it briefly drops the HDMI signal. When your TV sees the signal go, it automatically switches to a different port. Does it stop happening if you unplug the SCART lead?

Thanks SP for the explanation, in my case it is a minor annoyance that I have to make sure I wake my TiVo box before either I switch on my TV or awake it from standby! Anyway it's no hardship in selecting HDMI 1 on my tv remote:)

Hi thanks for that but I am connecting directly to the TV and its been fine for 18 months.

It stopped for a while - two weeks however Its just started doing it again!
