Server Error : 555
Greetings! I hope you can help me - I'm a steam age man and baffled by electronics.
Just back from holiday, during which computer has been shut down. I've changed nothing - not been fiddling with things I don't understand! I can receive emails on my Windows Live Mail Account, but when I try to send emails I get this message - The message could not be sent because the server rejected the sender's email address. xxxxxxxxxxxx@ntlworld.com Subject 'Re: Meeting 5th December' Server Error: 555 Server Response: 555 Invalid email address. Server: 'smtp.ntlworld.com' Windows Live Mail Error ID: 0x800CCC78 Protocol: SMTP Port: 25 Secure(SSL): No Strangely enough I can send emails on the same account, using the same modem / router thingy, on my smart phone. What do I need to do, or who do I need to contact? Any help gratefully received, Thanks in advance, Simon |
Re: Server Error : 555
i would change the setting in your email client to secure communication for outgoing and incoming emails. If you tick the boxes you'll see the ports change to 465 and 965 respectively. I can't remember port 25 ever working for me. The reason why it works on your phone is because those settings are probably enabled by default.

Re: Server Error : 555
Thanks for your help.
In the end I had to bite the bullet and get help from Virgin. I watched as the man from India remotely changed the setting from ntlworld to blueyonder. So suggesting that Virgin had made some changes on ex-ntl customer's settings without bothering to tell them. It all works fine now - until Richard Branson's goons mess about with it again............. Simon |
