Fill the box to void ticket.
Can someone tell me one good reason why on a National Lottery ticket, there's a box with "Fill the box to void ticket"?
why would you want to void the ticket before you've checked the numbers? why would you want to void the ticket after you've checked the numbers and won £8,000,000? why would you want to void the ticket after you've checked the numbers and you haven't won anything? |
Re: Fill the box to void ticket.
When I used to work in a convenience store, quite often, someone would fill in a ticket and get it completely wrong or decide they wanted to change their numbers, in this case, to cancel the ticket as a CA you fill the box, press the cancel button on the terminal and feed the ticket in and it cancels it.

Re: Fill the box to void ticket.
Apparently it's because you are entitled to a refund within 15mins of buying it, once you do the retailer is supposed to fill the box to void it.

Re: Fill the box to void ticket.
Because back when the lottery started shop staff could void a ticket by pressing a button on the terminal. After a few unscrupulous types started voiding tickets once customers left the shop knowing the chances were most tickets were losing and they could cover a few £10 claims they would pocket the money.
Camelot then changed the procedures so the actual ticket had to be present to be voided. |

Thanks. Derek's explanation was good.

Mine was just as good, it's so you can cancel the ticket in the shop ;)

Re: Fill the box to void ticket.
They were all good. none of you are my favourites :)
What happens if you win money and present the ticket with the box being filled? you don't get the ticket back if the shop voids it do you? |
Re: Fill the box to void ticket.
No, we used to tear them up, they would not be accepted with the box filled afaik

Re: Fill the box to void ticket.
I thought it was used if you made a error and used another line with the correct numbers.
