Typhoon Haiyan Kills Thousands

Quote:

Typhoon Haiyan, which killed thousands in the Philippines, has made landfall in northern Vietnam, close to the China border, as a weaker Category One storm.

With the death toll from 'super' typhoon Haiyan now estimated to be well over 10,000, the Philippines government and international aid agencies are engaged in a desperate struggle to get help to increasingly angry victims of what may have been the strongest storm ever to make landfall.

Soo many died even though warnings were given early. RIP

So we are giving £10 million in aid to them. Pray tell us Cameron where the bloody Hell the money is going to come from to pay for this?

Aid has to be given Mark. I dont know how much should be actually given in aid though. This is a multi billion pound disaster.

Re: Typhoon Haiyan Kills Thousands

I'm going to sound cruel and heartless here, but why the bloody Hell should we send aid to them? As far as I know there are no Brits living there, which I could understand us sending some aid out there. But that is £10 million that could be spent on front line nurses or more policemen on the beat or a better pay deal for firemen. But oh no, it has to be sent out as aid to a country we have no connection with in any way or where there are no Brits living who need help.

Go and live under a rock, honestly I think it would be better for you. Some of the things you say are truly remarkable well done. To be honest what you say is actually laughable, you say nurses? the last I saw there were a fair few nurses on duty in the NHS that have Philippine ethnicity. Anyway as much as it may pain you to know but frankly its true, to the economy 10m into national services would little as oppose to The Philippines on their feet!

Because it's the decent thing to do?

I'm no huge fan of the aid system in its current form but I have no problem whatsoever with it being used to provide immediate help to people who lives have been utterly devastated.

That's funny, where are we going to find ten million, put it into context, it's less than most lottery wins and a lot of football transfers and your right it did sound cruel and heartless, not to mention ridiculous.

So what? Only saying what loads of people will be thinking anyway, so I don't really give a toss if you agree with my opinion or not tbh.

If the money is truly being used to give them food and water then no I do not begrudge them it so much. However, like a lot of aid we give out it will never get to the people it is supposed to benefit which is why I am so against aid being sent at all.

Of course it will

The aid being sent is shelter ,food ,water ,logistics etc.The Philippines are a democratic society not a third world dictatorship with a penchant for shoes and tanks
have a read of the country you would condemn

the whole point of human migration is to better your position not migrating and staying in areas prone to natural disasters shows a weaker version of the homo sapien are the stronger more intelligent obliged to help them? in a civilised society I spose we are but in a natural environment it is meant to be survival of the fittest. I think all the aid we give to the weaker nations just helps to create the population crisis which in the future will see wars and genocide far greater than we have ever seen in history
