A 20-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after two teenage girls were hit by a car in Hampshire.
Jasmine Allsop, 14, and Olivia Lewry, 16, were walking along Ann's Hill Road in Gosport when they were hit by a Honda Civic at about 04:15 GMT.
Jasmine was pronounced dead at the scene while Olivia died at Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
Way too close to home..and the accused has been charged with murder

I hope this isnt the start of a trend. Just had the same in Manchester, 3 guys run over deliberately, driver got 20 years.

A car is a lethal weapon in the wrong hands.

I'm wondering why a 14 yr old is out at 4.15 in the morning? Or have I lost touch with reality. Not to take away anything from the incident, but if they weren't there, it wouldn't have happened. One things for sure my 14 yr old wouldn't have been out and about at that time of night.

It's been reported that she was outside her house with her friend, stood on the pavement talking.

The car driver was apparently known to them too.

Some parents seems to absolve themselves of any responsibility for their offspring and there's no way my children would have been out that time of the morning full stop.

To be honest it's entirely irrelevant about their ages and the time.Anyone of any age should be allowed to be out on the streets at any time without being targeted by muggers, rapists and murderers.

Don't start laying the blame on parents or the victims..lay it at the feet of the idiot who committed the crime.

No blame on anyone except the driver, but you're living in cloud cuckoo land if you think it's alright for a 14 & 16 Yr old to be out and about at that time of day.

Why not? Why should we all have to be afraid to be out at night? Why shouldn't a teenager be able to walk home with her friend after going to a party?I suspect it's not something they did EVERY night.

It's like that old thing about how a women dresses will get her raped when in fact it is that she just happened to be a convenient victim because a lot of victims don't even wear slutty clothes..and not all rapes take place at night.Lots of crimes take place during the day but you don't suggest that people shouldn't be out during the day? Do you?

The eldest was 16..what difference would it have made if she was 18?Two years difference shouldn't come into it.

Well I guess we differ on our viewpoint, I'll take away from mine however, that in my world the kids would have been tucked up in bed and still alive, in your world this sort of thing would just keep on going, despite your liberal heartfelt wishes for a world full of unreality.

My world might not be so pleasant, but it is the world we live in. So I choose to take adequate safety measures to avoid tragedies like what happened to those two young people from happening rather than bleat on about how 'we should be able to be out and about in perfect safety, regardless of time of day and age'.

Bleeding heart liberals don't make the world safer, rather the reverse. Sad but true.

Actually all this came out of the implied inference that because they were out at that time of night/morning that they got what they deserved..Which is so blatantly unfair.

There was no inference (as far as I can tell) that 'they got what they deserved'. The question is, if their parents had been more concerned about their welfare they would not have allowed them to be out at a time when they could be in a situation where they could have been killed by a (presumably) drunk driver...

Of course its blatantly unfair about what has happened Maggy and my thoughts go out to their family and friends but as we all know we live in a different far more unsafe world to when we were all that little bit younger and there are many people who will ask the same question of why they were out at that time and most people would say why were they out at that time of night and the fault for that has to lie with the parents.

So if they had been out in daylight and had been killed then then no blame attaches to them..what rubbish.Such a fecking judgmental world you ALL live in.
