Virgin tv in bedroom
 

Hello

I have recently moved into a house which has two NFL cable outlets. I have a stb set up in the lounge and want to watch TV in the bedroom where the second outlet is.

My question is can I simply purchase a second stb and plug the cable that is already connected to the outlet to the box to get the tv working or does something else need to be done before the second outlet xan be used?

To clarify the ntl wall outlet in bedroom has a splitter thing attached to the cable that protrudes out of the bottom of the outlet. The splittler has two sockets where in one there is already a cable installed that lookslike the type you plug into the back of a stb

You can't just simply buy a box, they won't work unless supplied by Virgin, you have a viewing card and the box is properly paired to your account. People selling boxes in eBay etc aren't allowed to do it since the boxes remain the property of Virgin. If you want multiroom I'm afraid you're going to have to pay the sub!

So when if I opt for multiroom will the engineer fit a new box with a another card in it? I thought only one card needs to be supplied per household.

Virgin media take the p*55 they are asking me to pay another £49.95 activation fee as well as £6.50 per month for having a extra box!
Is there no way to use the cable outlet to watch TV apart from this?

Not unless you had freeview only upstairs??

As Andy says everything is controlled now by virgin and it isn't a case of just plugging another box in and hey presto.

Have you already had cable installed as I would think you'd only ever have one activation fee if you hadn't to install two boxes into your house? Plus I'm paying 4.99 for a TiVo box in my bedroom. Totally worth a fiver for TiVo. If you have already had the first box installed you could call virgin up and see if they'll waver the additional activation fee?

Yes I already have cable installed in the lounge. Have also phoned and spoke with virgin they say the activation fee has to be paid again for each extra box. I wouldn't mind paying the 6.50 per month but paying the activation fee again is ridiculous all the engineer did last time he came to "activate" the box was plug it into the TV and off he went!

If the access point in the bedroom actually works, you should be able to move the box from the lounge into bedroom though.
Not ideal to move the box everytime you go to bed, but it's an option

The 'activation fee' is mainly a contribution towards the cost of the box. The cost of the first box is factored into the monthly subscription, but £6.50 a month doesn't cover this. I'm sure you wouldn't be happy if the monthly subscription doubled.

If the box i already have works in the bedroom should a second hand one work as well? Also will the channels I've subscribed to work on it?

No, the box needs to be linked to your account, and Virgin won't do that for a box they haven't supplied.

You won't get a different answer to the same question that you posed in your first post that was answered in post 2.

Only boxes supplied directly by Virgin Media and for which any appropriate one-off and monthly charges are being paid will work.

Thanks guys for trying to help but I've found a way to do it without being ripped of virgin media!

For anyone else in the same position it can be done just keep searching!

I rather suspect the answer to that is yes and possibly also channels not available on the other box.
