EE now "Standardising" its networks.
 

Be warned if you have "locked" your phone to either Orange or T-Mobile base stations, that there are increasing areas of the country where only one service is available.

In a large part of Hertfordshire a network search on 2G now only shows T-Mobile, O2 & Vodafone, with no Orange presence at all.

I believe in order to recoup costs for the 4g bidding they're 'consolidating' quite a few masts (i.e. removing them) I've noticed significant degradation in signal in Worcestershire

Longer term it won't matter as 4g signals (the old terrestrial tv) penetrate better than 2/3g

but for now and prob the next couple of years, it won't be much fun for those of us unwilling to pay the crazy 4g rates.

Inevitable I guess but not ideal considering the signal only seemed to get to a good coverage across the board when they sorted out the roaming setup.

I know in theory they'll have done the maths to work out areas of overlap, excess capacity, etc. but I'm not convinced...

They've been doing it for years, this isn't new...

This is just the ongoing progress of their nationwide network upgrade. Since all T-Mobile and Orange 2G transmitters are being replaced with the same new EE kit, there's no point in configuring them to provide "different" networks, hence all Orange masts once upgraded will be showing as T-Mobile instead.
