Channel rumours ban - Make an official statement Virgin Media!

If this is truly VM stopping certain members posting rumours, then make an official statement. I think it is disgusting that you are using cloak and daggers PM to threaten a great group of people.

We all know you have a presence on this forum, so stand up and be counted.

Is there any chance you could explain exactly what this is about?

If it was VM then I'm entirely sure that the reasons will have everything to do with ensuring that they are amongst the market leaders. They're not in the business of ****ing off their customers without good reason-they can't be.

Sure, read the posts from this page. It is either DS trolls, or official VM people. A few of the rumour guys such as Media Boy have been warned and even told that they are delaying channels by posting rumours?

I would expect it's specifically this post http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/35630525-post584.html

1) Doesn't say it's from someone at VM, nor whether it was an 'official' warning.

2) Even if it is from someone from within VM, doesn't mean it isn't the truth. Some negotiations I'm sure are quite sensitive and have a bit of commercial horse trading. Having 'it's coming to VM' may well annoy content providers who see it as an assumption in negotiations.

3) Official statements come from VM as soon as channel launches are confirmed, and we staff generally get told pretty much at the same time as customers do.

Have to disagree with you on that last one, Virgin are pretty useless in announcing new channels.

I can confirmed that the PM was not from Virgin Workers - just an Virgin Viewer as far as I know.

I was really thinking about stop doing the Rumour channels launches anyway.

Sorry, but this is really comeplete nonsense.

To suggest that companies, usually American, would be concerned about postings on a UK forum about channels that may or may not launch is absurd.

If someone wishes to post rumours on a forum, that is their business and no one elses. If someone else chooses to read these rumours and believe them as fact, that is their business and no one elses.

Forums are very useful for general chat, help and guidance, exchange of ideas and posting news and rumours. Just because one, usually excellent poster, on DS is having a hissy fit, should not put people off from using forums.

It has been suggested (not a fact, a rumour) that there will be more channel launches but VM are concentrating on their Netflix roll out at the moment. I choose to believe this rumour, but others can believe whatever rumours they wish.

If folk aren't happy with free speech, perhaps they should move to somewhere more to their liking, ie North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran etc.

Now back to the coming soon thread, which is 95% general chat and rubbish and 5% very interesting (to me) rumours and news.

You should just ignore it if it was from a Virgin viewer then MB.

He should ignore it if it was from VM too, he's not on their payroll.

Re: Channel rumours ban - Make an official statement Virgin Media!

When a Virgin insider makes Virgins future plans and strategies public, prior to deals being finalised or announced, they might be in breach of Competition Law. This is a very serious offence and caries very hefty fines, and potentially prison sentences.

My basic understanding of Competition Law suggests an employee should not discuss or share or submit or otherwise provide competitively sensitive, confidential information to competitors or through third parties to competitors, i.e. future company plans, policies, strategies, ideas etc…

So if a Virgin insider provides information about channel negotiations and agreed deals that end up on this forum, that have not yet be made public, they could be deemed to have breached Competition Law. Third party competitors such as SKY, BT and YouView can easily visit this forum and get access to the information.

It's not VM it's someone from another forum attempting to use bullying tactics to try and scare us into not giving any info. It hasn't worked because i've already made it clear that i will indeed continue to post the rumours i hear.

Russ 11-10-2013 12:29

Re: Channel rumours ban - Make an official statement Virgin Media!

I'm not interested in VM (if it is them) or anybody else using bullying tactics to stop information being posted.

If there is legitimate info that someone wants posted but for whatever reason is concerned about repercussions then send myself or one of the team a PM and we will post it on your behalf in complete confidence.

In the past VM have contacted us asking us to remove certain things and each time we have refused them point-blank. What they (or any other company) considers 'sensitive' or 'damaging' is their problem, not ours. We are not out to make trouble for anyone but we do not dance to their tune. There was a time we had a healthy working relationship with VM where we could help customers get issues resolved but one day they simply stopped responding and have since made it clear they no longer wish to participate in this relationship, and dropped us.

If we are approached by the police, a court or any other legal authority we will of course comply but removing something just because a company asks us to? No way.

I reiterate, any legitimate rumours or stories that people want posted in complete confidence can be sent to us for posting.

Re: Channel rumours ban - Make an official statement Virgin Media!

Technically Russ under a certain law, Virgin Media and legal authorities would have to contact the poster to remove it as anything posted on this forum is from the poster and not from you. Good on your for saying no though!
