Very slow downloads, have I been capped?
Hello,
OS: Windows 8 x64 CPU: Intel (4th Gen) i7 3.50GHz RAM: 16GB I recently updated to the Super "Dooper" Hub #2 and since I have been on this service my connection has dropped to a crawling pace. The engineer said to be before he left. If you get any problems with the connection, give faults a call to make sure that they've put you on the right part of the network. I must admit, this has happened before and they messed up my connection, until I spoke to somebody who was knowledgeable to understand that somebody had made a mistake. I hate calling faults because... I always end up speaking to dumbest of them all who is obviously reading from a scripted questionnaire. Well my connection at the moment has a Speed Test of 5MB. This is a 120MB connection and the speeds that I am getting are appalling. Before my Supper Hub was changed I was getting amazing download speeds. But now I have noticed they are appalling slow. An example: Downloading Assassin's Creed 3 from Steam on my old modem was as shown below. These are accurate speeds and not factorial, these were logged at the time of the download and continued throughout. Super Hub #1 Current Network Usage 7.9MN/s Download Rare 11.9 MB/s Peak Download Rare Super Hub #2 Current Network Usage 1.8 MB/s Download Rate 2.6 MB/s Peak Download Rare I ran WinMTR for about 4 hours, and the packet loss was minimal apart from one section which was 89% PL but then it started to drop and average out about 27% PL and it's now rising up slowly again which is normal depending on how many active connections are on at one time. it's leveled out at 32%. Packets PS: 193 Rec: 148 Loss %: 24 Ping time Last: 37.0 Best: 19.0 Avg: 33.0 Worst: 98.0 I know that my connection can download this game in less than 50 minutes. but on this new Super Hub the download speeds are just utter rubbish. Oh before I forget. Power levels on the modem are perfect -5.46dBMv which is fine. It looks as though I may need to speak to faults about this. my connection is so slow I may as well be paying for an ADSL connection. I have downloaded some 400MB files from my server and these are slow as well. I have downloaded some large files from various websites and these are slow as well. I tried the SH#2 without the CISCO router attached and the connection was the same. At least I know the problem isn't with my equipment. |

While within range, that's actually far from "perfect". What are the full stats to your modem? For every channel, up and down - we need to see the lot. |
Re: Very slow downloads, have I been capped?
^^ What he said. -5.46 is barely 1/3rd of "perfect", though not exactly Sum Ting Wong/Wi Tu Low material either.

Pete Tong. and the downstream PW was the same as it is now. I'll change the Forward Path Attenuator tomorrow to lower the PW... |
Re: Very slow downloads, have I been capped?
The downstream power is too low and your SNR is too low. Poor signal would appear to be the source of your packet loss and consequently low throughput.

Re: Very slow downloads, have I been capped?
[RESOLVED]
Okay, I have been using CISCO routers for years and I have never know them to be sensitive to router names...? Because you cannot put a space in the center of a two worded name. I put a - which I think threw the modem into Numpty Mode because changed the router name without spaces or - and also left the Local Network Host Name as default and now the download speeds are back to normal. I ran a bandwidth test and I am now hitting what I should be hitting. So testing the SH#2 was down to me not rebooting the cable modem, so I have put that down to cache. I know this is probably a long shot but it has resolved the hideous download speeds. I just downloaded TC Ghost Recon FS, Metro Last Light and Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 and the results were. Current Network Usage 15.5 MB/s Download Rate 15.5 MB/s Peak Downloaded Rate 24.2 Total Downloaded (DLC Packs increases TD) HAAPIS: Happy as a ? "I'll leave the rest to your imagination." I never want to go through that again. :bigcry: ---------- Post added at 03:02 ---------- Previous post was at 02:56 ---------- Quote:
Ideally Newport West for example -5.6 isn't that bad -10 would have consequences on the connection and -15 would cause the modem to power cycle all the time. |

Yeah, 17+? That's a joke.

They're still not great to be honest but they're in line.
