Engineers "fix" ?

Have been losing connection a lot in the past month or so. Finally had enough & called CS. Engineer came out yesterday & changed the power cable. Why?

because there has been a known issue with the psu on shub1 but I thought they sent replacement psu's out to every customer earlier in the year. A faulty psu is just one of the possible causes, hopefully he looked at your power levels while he was there and ruled out some other causes. How frequent were your disconnects before? Do you think the new psu has made any difference so far?

Losing the connection, wired or wireless, was a pretty much normal occurrance with my sh1 when I was with VM.

Use modem mode with a decent router is mostly a sure fire solution.

The question is - has the issue been fixed?

As it was intermittent it is hard to tell. I only called as it seemed to be longer than before. As I said no problem with the help or service, just wondered what was the cause, that changing a power cable would fix it ?.

If it's the SH power block, then they supplied earlier SHs with the wrong power supply (10v instead of 12v IIRC). That could make a router mode SH misperform. My SH1 in modem mode didn't misperform.

Something like that.

If he merely replaced the mains lead going into the power supply, then he hasn't intentionally fixed anything. He might have moved the mains cable off an ethernet cable, though.

What was happening with the earlier tech install Superhubs was that the "tech" was just swapping the modem for a hub and leaving the old modem psu in place. They were 10v instead of 12v and the power rating was lower than the correct psu.

There have been umpteen examples of whistling psus which were driving users potty.

I've no idea if the psu fell into either of those two categories or was just faulty but it got switched out for some reason - just hope that the reason wasn't "I must appear to do something and this is something".

Yes that's the power supply.

Are your connection problems fixed now?
