Contract question - Leaving?

Ok, so i am NOT in contract currently. However I may move in the next 12 months and might keep Virgin. I would very much like a Superhub 2 and a little bit of discount. I am currently on VIP. So let's say I manage to get a deal, can I downgrade the package to the basic, then pay off the remaining?

I have already seen this and it could cost me over £250 if I have 6 month left! So I was hoping I could downgrade say a month before and pay less when cancelling?

Just got off the phone to them.

VIP 120 - £113 a month - was paying £116
Superhub 2 and swapping V+ box for TiVO 500 - £25.
£2 pro rata refund.
Also better phone, unlimited mobile and 08 calls.

Also confirmed I am only contracted to have 1 of each service + additional box. So the month before I leave I could downgrade everything to basic, thus costing me less in the event of cancellation.

He told it did not, only if you take on hardware.

I would be very suspicious that downgrading 1 monthish before you leave would result in the normal penalties. What is meant by you only have one of each service? How could you possibly have more than one e.g one phone line, one TV service and one broadband. :erm:

What he means is exactly that. So long as I have all the services it does not matter which level. So I could bump down to all medium for example, but would be able to remove the phone and only go with broadband and tv for example.

Don't OFCOM regulations to Early Termination Charges apply which mean they can only effectively charge you the rate at the minimum you could downgrade to, minus the costs they would save by not having you as a subscriber?
Effectively they can only charge you the minimum profit they could make off you to the end of the contract.

This is how Sky ETC's work.

So it would always be cheaper to cancel and pay the ETC than to pay the subs for the remainder of the contract. They don't tell you this when you call and ask, but it is the reality.
