Hi, just bought this router , but now getting 54meg instead of 120 meg
when i plug my old dlink dir615 i get 94meg

whats wrong?:mad:

So it is likely to lie in the settings of the ASUS.

It could be that you've got QOS turned on, which turns off hardware acceleration, IIRC.

I'm not in front of my ASUS router so I can't be definite - but it's on the Traffic Management menu

Have you tried updating the firmware? Also not sure about the n66 but my n56 I can see what speed and duplex that a computer is attached with might be worth checking that it both matches up on the computer and the router.

Altho saying that I had to return a new Tenda N60 router as I only got 20mbit wired on it wireless worked ok so could be faulty device, just get a replacement as the n66 really is one of the best routers out there at the moment!

Check that your local area connection is at 1Gb.

I run my Asus with QOS off.

There is new firmware recently. Old version = 3.0.0.4.260. New version = 3.0.0.4.276

Is there some setting in the router that limits your speed to 54mb or does that only effect wireless?

Are you able to post a picture of the QOS page as it currently stands? I'm thinking of the bandwidth settings.

Hi, seph, i turned on the QOS as I found that it even slowed it down more..
I upgraded the firmware , still no increase in speed (wired)

I now am using the DLINK DIR 615 My old one which is giving me 93 Download
11.5 Upload.

I might think the router is faulty, as if the old one can manage 93MB
and i get only53MB on the Asus..
very sad that I might have £100 down the drain

Fair enough. But as a last ditch - what are your bandwidth settings in the QOS page?

Anyway it won't be down the drain because a faulty item has to be made good. It's the law.

I've looked at my traffic monitor tab. (Asus RT-N66U) It appears entirely passive, in that there is nothing to adjust. You can alter the view, i.e. wired, wireless 1 and wireless 2, real time, last 24 hours or daily. The line graph adjusts its interval depending on current usage. Right now the graph shows a maximum possible speed of 73Kb/s.earlier it showed 98Kb/s. This is appears to be reactive to LAN and WAN activity.

I can see no potential for manually adjusting your actual bandwidth.



Bandwidth adjustment can only be actioned in the QOS tab and only if QOS on. By default my settings were 124Mb/s down and 12Mb/s up. I attempted to replicate problems by switching QOS on at those levels. My maximum speed in tests was 90Mb. I raised the potential down speed to 250Mb/s. Still I could only get 90Mb. With QOS off my download speed returned to its usual 126Mb.

Did you upgrade the firmware? If so I guess there could be a physical fault.

A couple of things peeps:

a) all the advice given above is very helpful but if I bought a router and had to update the firmware just to get it to work properly I wouldn't be a very happy bunny
b) I know it is a long shot but the op should check his config and make sure he hasn't been re-provisioned for 60mbits
