as far as i know/remember (i maybe wrong) the transfer code they give you lasts for a month, if you don't transfer your number by then you have to call up again and get a new code

I seem to remember being told that you have to use it within one month of getting the PUK code as well the last time I changed network.

Yeah you can ring up anytime with a valid PAC code and transfer a number over doesn't have to be as soon as you get the SIM :)

Re: Porting PUK's

Just read about your PUK/PAC mix up. The info I gave was actually relating to a PAC code. So if you get a PAC code from your old provider you have a month to use it, if you don't use it you will need to get a new PAC code. If your old sim isn't used for a while, usually 12-18 months, your old number and sim may be disabled and might not be able to port your munber over.
