This is US only, nothing to do with the Virgin Media TiVo indeed:

Thought new owners said they wanted to move away from TiVo. So I think that mean until the TiVo deal runs out, we will get nothing new in the way of software on TiVo boxes.

No, they haven't said that.

Irritatingly, TiVo still hasn’t converted the entire interface to HD — there are still old-style SD screens throughout the settings menu, which I’ve been complaining about for at least three years. Why can’t anyone at TiVo just spend a weekend fixing this?
3 years.....to convert to a all-new HD interface.....on new hardware.

:erm:

do you think we'll ever be able to watch recorded shows through mobile etc? that would be absolutely amazing. no way sky could counter that!

Could have sworn one of the news stories linked here when the deal was announced said that the new owners were looking to ditch the TiVo and replace with their own boxes in the future. Might have changed since then, I lose track with all the different news about the takeover.

It was probably just a blog sprucing their article up rather than it being an actual quote.

It would have to be an additional box to the current Tivo's like the Tivo Stream box in the US or VM would have to release new boxes based on these new US models.

The current boxes don't have the hardware required to encode the video so it is suitable to playback on a mobile device. They could possibly do it via the cloud as another option.

ah! i doubt they will then. :(

If the new owners have their own box and software i'd imagine tivo will be phased out once the contract ends they'll see that as a big way to save money i'd guess?
