Marketing Calls on Orange
Can someone please tell me how marketing people get hold of a brand new number from orange within 25 mins of activating the sim card?
Its my daughters birthday today and i bought her a new phone from Argos that came with a free Orange Pay as u go sim. I set the phone up activated the sim and within 25 mins she has a call asking if she would like to claim back money on PPI insurance. Does orange sell their numbers? |
Re: Marketing Calls on Orange
No number is brand new... It will have been used before then added to the pot for redistribution. In this case you've just got unlucky with it already being in the hands of the mailing lists

Re: Marketing Calls on Orange
Some numbers are brand new, they are introducing some new number ranges. Some are being reallocated from old ranges that had little or no use, or were never used for "people".
But yes, with the number of mobile owners in this country now a lot are being recycled. That said a lot of cold calling companies randomly generate numbers from all valid options so they do not "know" any number. They basically do the equivalent of having a computer mash a dialpad and if it connects, great! Oh and some networks reserve "special" numbers like 07890-123-456, or others with similar "memorable" patterns for people willing to pay a premium and some of these have never been used, some of these have been added to the new pool too when they got bored of waiting to find people rich and dumb enough to actually buy them. |
Re: Marketing Calls on Orange
This is getting ridiculous.
My Daughter is receiving call after call from the same number asking for their gran because its a problem with the fuse box at home. She tells them they have the wrong number and again they ring. 6 Calls since just before 5 pm. |
