Upload speeds

When I was on 10 MB, my upload speed was around 1.5 MB a second and I was told when upgrading to 30 that once the doubling was done in my area it should go up to around 3 MB a second. It hasn't, because my area was finished in July.

Would a simple reset of the router work or do I need to call their technical team to see what is happening or was I fed a load of crock a few months ago?

This is the current situation:

Quote:

All our 120Mb customers now have a 12Mb upstream and our 100Mb customers are all on track to join them on 120Mb/12Mb by the end of the year. The work for the increased upstream speed for our 30Mb and 60Mb customers is underway and now the engineering teams have completed the downstream speed doubling programme, we'll finalise this timetable and let you know as soon as we can.

Thanks Ben, nice to know it is coming.

Re: Upload speeds

Just to clarify, when you were on 10meg, your upload speed would have been 1meg (10:1). However you should still expect 3meg upload when your area gets upgraded.

Out of curiosity, what IS your upload speed? I haven't seen anyone on 30/1, it seems to be 30/2 for the moment and 60/3 so you should have at least got a bit of a jump from the 1 meg you used to be on.

Re: Upload speeds

It's gone from 1.1 to 2.1, but I was told it should go to 3.

Re: Upload speeds

that is correct, so at least your upload speed has gone up a bit from the 10/1 it was before. And yes, it'll go to 30/3 eventually but who knows what the time frame for that is.

Eventually it will go to 100meg upload...

Lets stop saying it will until virgin announce dates, im sick of virgins "coming soon" to everything

Re: Upload speeds

There'll always be a "coming soon" aspect to it, Virgin likes to announce new projects before current projects are complete. In their defence, BT has done the same with FTTC (Vectoring comes to mind).

It'll come when it comes I suppose. Upload speeds have always been Virgin's weak point.

No wonder they struggle to keep up with BT - takes you lot years to do what BT can do at the flick of a switch!

Still - that's progress I suppose

Yes a whole 2 months before they started it - bad people!

Oh virgin? Talked about doing 120/12 in 2010.. 3 years later it arrives.

I know which one I would prefer

It was well more than 2 months and they're currently only trialing it. It won't be rolled out until next year and there's no time frame for that (granted, it is a brand new technology and does need to be tested).

I don't recall BT ever promising to deploy vectoring by any date, only that it was "being investigated" as a possible future upgrade, no different to VM and DOCSIS 3.1.

A more accurate comparison would be the upgrade of everyone from 2Mb to 10Mb upload or deployment of 80/20. They usually announce a rough date (e.g. "Next spring") and usually stick to it (though they sometimes miss by a week or two, and 1Gbps has kinda become vaporware)
