Cruising with a mobile
I am shortly going on a cruise and taking my mobile just to listen to music. To avoid any horrendous internet costs , can I just put my phone in Flight Mode or do I have to change any other settings please?

Re: Cruising with a mobile
Flight mode would do it, but that would also stop you from connecting to a Wifi network where available. Assuming an Android phone: go to settings -wireless & networks. Then toggle Mobile Network off.
Alternatively: switch data roaming off. This will stop you connecting to the web when abroad, but not when in the UK. |

Just checked and on both Android & iOS (iPhone/iPad/iPod) you can turn Airplane Mode on and then turn WiFi back on

You can indeed. New one to me :tu:

Re: Cruising with a mobile
Having just been faced with charges for texts I ddn't make while overseas, if I removed my SIM card whilst overseas, would I still be able to use my Android phone for playing games and listening to my music collection?

Re: Cruising with a mobile
Can't say for sure about Android phones, but in my experience, most smartphones can do other stuff without a sim, they just can't phone or send or receive messages.

Yes.
If you have an UMA app you will also be able to make and receive calls and texts. |
