2 Tv's of one TIVO

I am new to all this, and have read the previous posts on this but still don't understand !

I am attempting to run 2 tv's in adjacent rooms of one TIVO box. Currently the main TV is connected to the TIVO via a NDMI cable.

I did a quick test, connecting a scart lead from the TIVO box to the 2nd TV and it worked.

I have bought a Universal Modulator (VH89W) from Maplin, when I connect the scart to the Modulator and coax to the 2nd TV I get 'no signal' on the 2nd TV.

Am I doing something wrong or is there a problem with the modulator?

Any assistance wll be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Colins

Why don't you just use the SCART lead?

Because the cable run is approx 15m, I have run in a coax. If I can get a scart lead that long I would probably re run it.

Thanks for the response.

I realise this may be a "sucking eggs" question, but you are tuning (scanning) on the TV, aren't you? The modulator can generate a test pattern to help tuning - see the manual.

Try getting it working with a short coax to rule out a fault with your 15m one.

No sucking eggs here, your dealing with a novice !

I have used a short coax to test rather than the 15m one. When I turn the modulator on I get the 'no signal' message on the screen. I wasn't aware that you have to tune it.

I see the 8 switches, currently 256 are on, how would I go through a sequence to get a signal ?

Sorry for the stupid question !

Don't change the switches on the modulator. You need to get the TV to retune.

If you can't work out how to do that, post the make & model of the TV, and I'll see if I can find the manual online.

Thanks Spiderplant,
I am testing with a Samsung 741 Synchmaster 741 LCD TV
Model code LS17 DOASS/EDC and unfortunately I don't have the remote.

I have quickly scanned the internet, but cann't find how to tune without the remote.

Thanks for your help.

The manual is here http://www.manualslib.com/manual/201...page=32#manual

It seems you can use the buttons on the front to tune it (press menu, then use up/down/left/right to move through the menus). You need to find the Channel menu, check the country is set to UK, then select Auto Store.

Thanks for this, still struggling to do this using the buttons but I will get there ! I assume that the source will need to be AV not TV ?

Also, although I can get the menu up from the buttons on the front of the tv, I can't find the 'enter' button !

No, it's TV. (The modulator is generating the same type of signal you'd get from an aerial)

I assume you don't need an OK button. Try pressing MENU when you have selected the option you want.

Success !!!!

Managed to programme a universal remote that we have to the tv (surprised myself that I could do this !).

Have now managed to manually tune the tv so I now have two TV's working off the TIVO box.

Many thanks for all your help Spiderplant, you are a star.

Regards,

Colins
