Remote Control

Engineers called in an left a new remote control. The old remote is working OK but is missing the LED cover. It will be good to have two remote controls but the new one seems to be missing the auto rewind button which rewinds 7 seconds and re-starts - does anyone know if the button is hidden somewhere on the new remote controls?
Cheers
T

Re: Remote Control

Which remote do you have? They are all pictured here

If it's a type 11 or 12, the skip back button is to left of the record button.

Thanks - type 12. That button does the trick. Cheers!

Re: Remote Control

I hope it's OK to add a bit to this thread:
The engineer was a bit concerned as I had used rechargeable batteries in the old remote - he said that, as the power in the batteries became depleted, the signal sent by the remote would alter. This really does sound like a silly query but surely this would only, possibly, have an effect when the remote was used
The engineer was even concerned as we have some low energy light bulbs as even they can effect the V++ box - has anyone experienced problems with that (this wasn't relevant to our issue as the V++ box has malfunctioned when the light was not switched on

Bollocks. Pardon my French. I have energy saving bulbs in the house, at a low wattage and it has never interfered with the BB, phone or TV. Absolute bollocks from the engineer re: the lighting. Not sure about the rechargeable batteries though.

Rechargeables have a lower voltage than alkaline batteries, so there is more risk of the remote not operating correctly. Sometimes they can send the wrong codes if the batteries are low.
But any battery is going to go flat sooner or later. Just remember to recharge or change the batteries if you get problems.

Low energy bulbs can cause problems, but most of the time they don't. Unless the box doesn't work correctly with the bulb on, don't worry about it.

It's not. Low energy bulbs can generate IR noise that drowns out the signals from the remote. Also the box can pick up the noise and interpret it as genuine key presses from the remote, causing random channel changes and the like.

It's not that common, but does happen.

Rechargeable batteries are 1.2v as opposed to "normal" ones at 1.5v so you are 0.3v down to start. Both sorts have the problem that the voltage reduces as they are discharged. Best to use alkaline batteries which maintain the 1.5v for most of their life

I have often wondered why there is a voltage difference between the rechargeable and alkaline batteries.

Different chemistries give different voltages.

Here's a good explanation I just found
