Using a Hdmi splitter with Tivo

Afternoon all

I've been given the task of getting my parents a new DVD player...simple enough but i thought id get them up to speed with later tech and go for blue-ray instead, but as always nothing is quite that simple as there current tv only has 1 HDMI slot and that currently is occupied by Tivo box, I know on the official virgin forum they say they don't support splitters...

Is there a splitter that works with Tivo so i could get them a blue-ray player???

if not then i'll just stick with DVD

Thanks for any help :)

Hi,

You don't want a splitter, you want a switch,

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet®-SWITCH...tp_s2_edpp_url

This has a remote for easy switching!

I would make sure its active powered that one will be but might not ship with the AC to DC converter for it. Passive ones are not good

Oh and if your blu-Ray player is 3d you might want to make sure your switch is 1.4a compatible.

its not 3d as they won't need that

Jameseh has been very kind and offered me a switch so all is well

just an update

i ended up with one of these given too me by a friend http://www.amazon.co.uk/Neet%C2%A9-S.../dp/B001DAHS5Q

problem is it will not auto switch with the virgin tivo and the Phillips BDP2900/05 blue-ray

switches fine pressing the manual button but as my dad is a) not tech savy in the slighest and b) a pain in the arse he'd rather do without

anyone any ideas?? tivo is in input 1 and blueray is in input 2

It will only auto-switch if the device supports CEC signalling, which the TIVo doesn't (I can't say whether or not the Blu-ray player does).

See the response from Neet here http://www.amazon.co.uk/review/R1Y19J4ZSQ6SEY

Try looking for a model with a remote control instead.

Neet got back to me and offered a free upgrade to the remote one which is good of them

as for the blueray player it says it has Easylink....EasyLink to control all HDMI CEC devices via a single remote

Re: Using a Hdmi splitter with Tivo

The BluRay has CEC so it should work, if you remove the switch and put the tv to a source that isn't the BluRay, then turn the BluRay on, does it automatically switch?

If it doesn't you'll have to go into the bluray settings and turn it on, if not I'm stumped!

i have just tried without the switch, Turned on the wii which was on AV1 and then turned on the Blueray....still no joy :(

tv is a LG 37lc2bd if that makes any difference
