What happens to email when you leave?
 

I'm most likely moving from Virgin soon but I've always used their email. Do Virgin terminate the email account on the same day as your contract? Just thinking in case I forget to switch over some account or whathaveya.

There is a run-over period where they let you continue accessing it, can't remember how long that is but it is a few weeks at least.

Hmmm. Just checked my cancellation emails from 2011 and they said they would cancel mine immediately as well.

But I don't think they did ...

i'm scrwed, been away from vm for over a year, i was told i could still access my emails apart from sending which was fine, yesterday and today i can't access any of my email accounts, keep getting this

i left virgin a few years back but my ntlworld email still works fine

my yahoo account retrives my ntl email from pop.ntlworld.com with my user name set as my normal email name but after the @ its @pop.ntlworld.com

and ssl is off

I would suggest that you assume that access will not be available as soon as you cancel.

Clearly there is a big difference between what they say will happen, and what actually does happen.

My NTL cable email continued working for months after I cancelled. My VM ADSL email continued working for a couple of weeks at least.

However, it is definitely better to be prepared for them to do what they say they will do, which is to shut it off immediately.

The official time is 90 days from the date of disconnection to the date you lose your email, however due to some of the email and other changes that have been happening over the last couple of years, that hasn't always been enforced

However, there is continuing work to fix that, and remove email accounts that shouldn't be there.

virgin still emails me on my ntl email been with sky nearly 3 years now

must say no one ever told me it would be disconnected and seems a bit short sighted

my sky email should never go now as it a part of yahoo and My O2 email still works and i haven't been with them for years (about 7)

lol just been checking through my other accounts Yahoo gets the emails for there are quite a few in there the only ones not working now are

Used to have one that was xxxxxxxx@thepub.co.uk can't for the life of me remember it though.
