Nope, TiVo is your only option.

Mmm if you are capable of being a naughty boy you can increase the storage in a V+

I think you can put a new hard drive in with bigger capacity, but as the box is owned by Virgin you would be breaking several rules if you put a bigger one in.

Just get a TiVo - if you don't want to use all the fancy bits you don't have to, it's still a good pvr.

Re: extra recording space

Definitely. Looked into upgrading from 500 GB to a 1 TB TiVo the other day, £100 they want to upgrade the box. £49.95 activation, and £49.95 install. Surely if I already have a TiVo I could just have them send the box to me and switch myself?

Re: extra recording space

I'm sure you could do better than that if you gave them a call.

Why would you not want a TIVO? Don't be put off by talk of complexity - if you just want to use it as you use your V+, you can. You don't have to have wishlists and so on if all you want to do is record programmes yourself.

I have a 1TB TIVO and it is a real relief not to have to keep an eye on my recordings because I am nearing capacity. I can have about 500 hours of recordings on there, so there is plenty of choice for me now.

Go on, do it - you know it makes sense!

I'm pleased I got it, makes things so much easier. Got it to record everything I like in wishlists, no need for series links. Some programmes I don't mind watching repeats of repeats of that show. And I was a total anti TiVo person when it launched.

It doesn't make any sense at all! Even if you turn off all that nonsense, you still have to pay the TiVo tax. :td:

There are many, many people who just do not want/need TiVo's functionality for whom it is a very bad deal.

I too wish (but do not expect to get) a Samsung V++ box with a larger hard disk and no other changes. That would be just perfect for me.

The only thing I agree with you is if you are on XL TV pack there is no monthly charge for the V+ box! I don't know if it is me but the TiVo is very simple to use PVR, sorry that is my view and probably a lot of members on this forum will agree with this statement:erm:

Agreed, I've used one. It is indeed very simple to use. As is the V+, Sky+ et al. So being simple to use doesn't differentiate it.

Your description of it being 'free' on XL is inaccurate. Firstly the charge is hidden in a collection, secondly VM charge unnecessary installation charges (under various names) for the box, thirdly, if you're on a loyalty discount, they'll add the charge.

However, I understand that TiVo has features of interest to some people, just none to me or I suspect, many others. If it were a genuinely free replacement for my V+ I'd turn all the nonsense off and use it, but as it isn't, I won't.

By the way, before anyone tries to go down the technophobe path (someone usually does when I express my opinion on TiVo) I'm an early adopter who loses a fortune by always having to have the latest gizmo that does something better. TiVo for me, doesn't.

Totally agree with you, I have all the latest tech, my tv cost more than a lot of people I knows car, but I have no desire to have a TiVo, there is nothing on that box I would use over my v+, nothing at all.

---------- Post added at 18:50 ---------- Previous post was at 18:45 ----------

Ps my tv has a pvr facilitys I have a 500gb hard drive plugged in to it, if I leave the tv on stand by I can access the recordings from my upstairs android tv box, I mean these are the most desirable of features, I don't need a TiVo, I just need vm to enable all the features my v+ and vhd are capable of, I don't need a TiVo.
