Free SIM not free

I upgraded my mobile service by phone yesterday after checking out the tariffs on http://www.virginmobile.com/vm/paymonthlySimOnly.do

I chose the Essential SIM Only £17

Your tariff gives you:

1200 minutes
Unlimited texts
Unlimited Mobile Web

SIM card cost FREE

I had 2 weeks previously ordered the same package from the website, but the lady I talked to yesterday said they had no record of that order. She changed my package automatically using the same SIM, and the tariff became live immediately.

This morning however I received a replacement SIM (marked as ordered yesterday) with a "SIM replacement charge" of £5.

So the SIM is not free.

You'd now be best off phoning them back and "upgrading" to their £15 a month VIP SIM which is unlimited everything.

That tariff didn't exist a few days ago! Better and cheaper! Thanks, I'll give them a call right away.

That was probably an automatic charge as they have a sim already dispatched on that account. A quick phone call would have probably seen that charge scrapped.

Re: Free SIM not free

I was put through to the Philipines, and they quickly put me through to UK Retentions.

Changed to the "unlimited" VIP £15 tariff with no qualms at all. £5 Sim fee refunded as he said it was an unecessary charge, and this month's bill reduced by £2 to bring it in line with the VIP tariff.

I was told there was a lot of confusion over the new tariffs!!

:woot:

After reading this I was moved to call to try and sort out a better deal.

so for an extra £3 a month I get all this now :)

Cheers taf (for giving me incentive) and Virgin mobile for sorting it all out.
