Tivo in multiple rooms (TV senders?)

Morning All,

First off apologies as I am sure this question has done the rounds more times than [enter promiscuous womans name here] however I have a few questions and while I have searched for the answers I only feel a little closer to solving my problem.

I have Virgin Media downstairs via TiVo and would like to have this in my bedroom without a second TiVo box and certainly without running wires throughout the house. From what I have seen it would appear that a TV sender would be my best option however I do have a few questions I was hoping you all would be able to help me with.

  1. Am I right in thinking a tv sender is what I need?
  2. Are they compatible with TiVo?
  3. Am I able to control the box via the sender or would I be limited to the channel it is left on?
  4. Are there any recommended senders that I use?

Ideally I would not like to spend loads. I am not looking for HD, just a simple TV A to TV B wireless solution.

I am open to any suggestions and if this is covered in another thread (with working links to usable senders) then please feel free to divert me in that direction and I will not waste any more of your time!

Thank you :)

Yes

Are they compatible with TiVo?
Yes, I use a Nikkai model that I bought from Maplins

Am I able to control the box via the sender or would I be limited to the channel it is left on?
Yes, they come with a blaster that you place next to the infrared reciever on the Tivo box. The one on your link has two inputs so you could also connect a dvd, blu ray etc.

Are there any recommended senders that I use?
Haven't bought one for quite a while but I would advise getting one that operates on 5.8Ghz rather than 2.4 as this avoids interference with your/neighbourswi-fi.

Also go on e-bay for a cheap additional tivo remote control, very convenient! saves having to remember to take it to bed with you.

Thanks for the reply.

I have taken your advice and found a couple on Maplin. I did find them on eBay too but I think I will feel more comfortable buying from an established company for the sender itself.

Good shout on the remote control, if I left it downstairs then it may as well be on the other side of the world as I wouldn't be moving to get it!

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Just in case this helps anyone with the same question in the future I thought I'd update this thread.

I purchased the following from Maplin http://www.maplin.co.uk/2-input-5.8g...der-kit-229271 and it works brilliantly. Plugs straight into the back of my TiVo box and now I have my TV in the bedroom. Certainly worth the money.
