Virgin Monthly Sim and iphone

Hi all, just bought my brothers iphone 3Gs off him and inserted my (only had 2 months) Virgin PAYG sim into it. Connected to itunes and all I get is "The sim card inserted in this phone does not appear to be supported". Can anyone enlighten me.

Sounds like it's locked to another provider of which you will have to get them to unlock it
