Some e-mail not being received

Has there been any change to ISP address, etc which may account for some of my e-mail not being received?

I have subscribed to Moneysavingexpert's weekly e-mail newsletter for several years with no problem. Stopped coming last week. Subscribed again today and screen said that e-mail notification had been sent - nothing received yet.

Wednesday, told insurance quote had been sent to me - nothing received.
Thursday took out insurance with same company and told confirmation and documents had been e-mailed - nothing received.

In all cases correct e-mail address has been used, I have made no changes to security and nothing is being stored as junk mail or being told that it has been rejected.

These are only the cases I know of. I do nearly all home finance on-line and am worried that other mail has also gone astray that I don't know about and companies are assuming I have received.

I have received variety of other e-mail this week with no problem.

Do you have an alternative email address? If so get the company to resend the documents to that email address. It pays to have more than one email addy just in case.

Thanks Maggy. OH has a separate email address I could have used, but I didn't think of this at the time. Insurance company immediately said it would sent docs by post. Made some comment that they used 'mass' email sender? so it could well be being blocked as spam. I'll resubscribe to moneysavingexpert newsletter with OH's email address and see if he can forward it to me.

Re: Some e-mail not being received

Have been on Virgin support forum and worked out where e-mails are.

I only use Windows Live Mail, so had not been in Virgin Mail, but my spam folder there had these e-mail messages and dozens of others - most correctly identified as spam, but several from senders I regularly hear from such as moneysavingexpert. Don't understand why Virgin is suddenly labelling these as spam. Its server settings must have been changed in last 3 weeks.

Have asked following question on Virgin Forum, but not had answer yet:

Having opened the incorrectly labelled spam messages in spam folder and clicked the 'NOT SPAM' button does this only apply to one message, or does sender now become a 'safe sender' for future e-mails?

Anyone here know the answer?

Re: Some e-mail not being received

Seems I'm not the only one. Another forum shows Virgin customers having the same problem and they too are finding missing e-mails from frequent 'safe senders' in spam folder.

Faulty spam labelling seems to have begun in middle of February, so Virgin has made some change to its spam detection system then.

Mail from Scotrail, and NS&I was amongst the spam?? Other mail was obviously spam and I'm glad it was prevented from reaching my computer.

Don't forget it only takes for someone to report an email as spam and it gets passed on as a spammer.

We have a similar problem at work. We subscribe to the Dreamspark system (crap name for what used to be called MSDN-AA, a system for distributing free Microsoft software to students). Because it's not part of the Uni's systems, students need to register for it. Nine times out of ten, if a student complains that they haven't recieved the log in and activation emails the systems sends, it's because they have been labelled as Spam.

Can see this is going to be a real nuisance. Moneysavingexpert newsletter received OK this week, but on logging into Virgin Mail and checking spam folder found another daily newsletter (free Kindle book list) there. Received Monday, Wednesday, Thursday OK, but Tuesday's one in spam folder.

Really don't want to switch to Virgin Mail as I like the comparative simplicity of Windows Live Mail.
