Modern Pentathlon out, Wakeboarding in?

2020 possible Olympics changes, what a joke...
Quote:

The modern pentathlon is likely to be among several sports at risk of being dropped from future Olympics.
Taekwondo, wrestling, badminton and table tennis are also thought to be fighting for survival from 2020.
Members of the International Olympic Committee's executive board will decide on Tuesday which events will survive.
Baseball and softball have combined forces to seek inclusion from 2020, along with squash, sport climbing, wakeboarding, wushu and roller sports.
Great Britain's women have won a medal at every Games since the event was opened to both sexes at Sydney 2000.

Wakeboarding

What is it? Cable wakeboarding is the proposal that the IOC will have to consider - it differs from the more traditional version of the sport where participants are towed by a boat and use the wake created to jump, flip and spin in the air.
An Olympic competition will use overhead cable machines to tow up to nine riders at once. With no wake created, competitors flex the cable in order to spring out of the water.
Each rider must show all possible variations of tricks and each run is judged subjectively against others, with two runs per heat. No falls are allowed.

If you have to explain the sport, it shouldn't be in.

The Modern Pentathlon was one of the few sports that really struggled to sell out in 2012. Whenever I was looking for more tickets the one constant was Modern Pentathlon as well as early rounds of judo...

I just looked up the Modern Pentathlon and it doesn't surprise me that it struggled with attendance, so I can see how the IOC would be looking for alternatives. I'm not sure if the alternative should be a jury sport though. Squash seems a better choice imo.

Utter madness, wrestling is one of the oldest sports in the world and far more legitimate than an effeminate horse skipping around a field.

They need to change the rule about not letting professionals in. It's absurd that The Rock has never won a gold medal!

;):D

Anyway I agree. Wrestling is more of a sport than horse dancing. It also seems more of a 'pure' Olympic sport given it's age. That said it has decent competition for the 2020 sport with Squash, baseball/softball and karate in there...

Wrestling is more connected to the Olympics than just about any other sport too. Sickening.

l cannot see why they can't add a few more sports and keep the ones they have got and extend the whole Jamboree for a few more days.
