Help with speeds please

What I have:

-60MB connection
-Laptop wirelessly getting around 50MB speed (speedtest.net)
-Desktop PC connected to powerline in mains socket receiving 20MB

I don't really need 60MB on the laptop. 30MB will do.

So If I change my speed by half and change to the 30MB package:

1) Will this retain the speed of my PC at 20MB? or will it halve to 10MB?
2) Anyone know how much I will save by doing this?

Thanks

I can answer your first point (the price on the second point is on VM's web page).

Your PC speed won't degrade from 20 mbps on account of a drop to 30 mbps for the circuit UNLESS you are running the laptop and PC concurrently with downloads.

Thanks seph. No the speeds are independent and quite consistent.

Hope I can reduce my bundle without losing the customer loyalty thing but I don't hold out much hope.

Ah - the customer loyalty thing. In my experience, they play this entirely by ear; as the wind takes them.

You could bluff them into thinking you'd take Sky Fibre/40 or similar (you'd need to check prices). It is certainly worth pointing out that your downgrading to 30 meg gives VM the opportunity of selling another 30 meg service without degrading the area's performance and certainly earning them more than th difference in price between 30 meg and 60 meg.

Looking at the "premier collection" - it is £48 on top of a phone line. That's £62.99

I currently pay £62.46 and don't even have a tivo!

Must be worth a call tos ee what they can do.

absolutely dude. I did that a couple of years ago when I found out I had been paying nearly twice as much as I should do for 50mbit. (I think it was £45 per month when it first came out.). My contract had been over and done with for yonks so rather than risk me leaving they knocked the price of the BB down to what it currently was and I got a great TV package for the bedroom upstairs.

It never, ever hurts to ask. Just go straight to retentions, bypass customer services as CS can't do half of the stuff retentions can. Also, I don't know if it's still true, but you're better off calling near the beginning of the month as retentions generally have monthly targets to meet, so if it's near the end of the month and they've given "too much" away, they may be less inclined to offer you the best they can.

At least, it used to be a bit like that, it may have changed.

And that has ever stopped them?
