Scottish Homeless now entitled to accommodation

Legislation which aims to effectively end homelessness in Scotland has come into force.

The change entitles anyone finding themselves homeless through no fault of their own to settled accommodation.

Previously, only those classed as being in priority need - often families with children - had that right.
Nice one Scotland!

I wonder if this means immigrants and successful asylum seekers will now be assigned a translator each :D

I can see a lot of these ending up in B&B or hostels paid for by benefits which of course soon after will lead the workforce into calling them scroungers and lay abouts. It is good though and hope it becomes nationwide. Being homeless again is one of my greatest fears

Is that you angling for a move North? :D

I'm skeptical as to how this will work. Excellent idea in theory but I think the only real winners will be private landlords giving sub standard housing to people for huge rents.

This legislation entitles the person to "settled accommodation" ,would that include B&B ?

No, but you might need to be in B&B until a place is available.

Though i think they keep that to minimum
see below
http://www.scotland.gov.uk/Topics/Bu...using/homeless

also shelter have good advice
If you are pregnant, or have children, you should not be placed in a bed and breakfast unless:
you are homeless because of an emergency, such as a flood, or fire
you have specifically asked to be placed in an area where there is no other temporary accommodation available, for example to be near friends or family, or your child's school.

You can also be placed in a bed and breakfast if:
you made your homeless application outwith normal office hours, or
the council does not have any suitable temporary accommodation for you.

Good that they now have entitlement although the reality is not much will change. They will be put on a housing waiting list as a bottom priority meaning everyone and their dog gets housed before them. Or alternatively they can start drinking, taking drugs and get violent, as that seems to get you more help quicker too.

Nah, they aren't that stupid. It's only fat Alec that seems to believe an independent Scotland would automatically be a member of the EU.
